PDF page extraction guide

How to extract selected pages from a PDF

Create a new PDF containing only the pages you need while keeping the original file unchanged and checking page ranges carefully.

6 minute guide Reviewed 13 August 2026By Anjan Kumar
1

List the exact pages you need

Open the PDF and note the page numbers for the content you want to keep. Watch for printed page numbers that differ from the PDF viewer's page index because covers and front matter can shift the numbering.

If you need several separate ranges in one output, write them down before entering them into the tool.

  • Compare printed and viewer page numbers
  • Record all required ranges
  • Check first and last selected page
  • Keep the source PDF
2

Use Split PDF for extraction

Open Split PDF, select the source document and enter the chosen pages or ranges. The browser workflow validates requested pages against the PDF's actual page count before creating the output.

Extracting pages copies selected pages into a new PDF. It does not edit the original file.

3

Check document-level features

Page extraction can affect bookmarks, attachments, forms and existing digital signatures because the selected pages are copied into a new document structure.

If these advanced features matter, test them in the extracted result rather than assuming they will behave exactly like the source.

  • Check bookmarks if required
  • Test form fields
  • Review signatures
  • Verify attachments separately
4

Validate the extracted file

Open the new PDF and verify its page count and content. Check the first and last extracted page and scan for any sensitive content that should not be included.

Use a descriptive filename that explains what the extracted PDF contains.

Practical checklist

  • Use viewer page numbers carefully
  • Validate page ranges
  • Test important PDF features
  • Open the extracted file before sharing
